Earl's Story
Some of us are lucky to own an animal that far exceeds our expectations for that
animal, Earl is the one for us.
He is the only son of the first buck we bred in our herd name, Roc N Ewe Jimmy
Mack, a cross between Ponders End Arabecca and Ponders End Windancer,  the
first goats we purchased from Gail Cole in 1999.  'Becca' as we lovingly called her,
was a very small but very correct black and white spotted doe out of Ponders End
Maximum Praise X It'l Do's Arapaho. Ponders End Windancer 'Dancer' Jimmy's dad,
was a beautiful Chamoisee great grandson of Twinks Pixie out of Twin Creeks BH
Bravado X Ponders End Dust Blossom.
The first time we bred Jimmy to Flat Rocks Keepsake, she kidded with triplet does,
we called them the sugar babies,  Brown Sugar, Candy Girl and Sugar Shack.  We
were going to breed Keeper to a different buck the following year and without even
thinking, put her back in with Jimmy, I immediately realized my mistake, but
fortunately it was too late, Jimmy had already had his way with her.
The following spring Earl was born and was the only survivor of triplets.
We do not know why we did not cut Earl like the rest of the buckling's, he was not
particularly impressive or flashy. Just a little black kid with no markings.
We lost Earls dad Jimmy just before his debut in the show ring at the Mini Milker
show in Placerville 2003.  Earl was only a couple months old, and it was devastating.
I decided to keep Earl and see if we could somehow salvage that bloodline. We didn't
pay much attention to him for the next few months, just hoping  he would turn out to
be a decent buck we might get a doe or two out of when he was old enough to
breed.
When Earl turned a year old he got his first haircut, WOW!!! was I surprised,  here
was this looonnnngg body, level top line, strong feet, great angulation, flat ribs, long
rump, long neck, tight sharp withers, wide beautiful chest and best of all he was not
objecting too terribly at me handling him. In fact he has been a gentleman and easy
to handle all along.
We took him to his first show, The Pahrump show in Oct of that year. Have to say it
was handlers error (yea me) that Earl did not do well. I had him so stretched out that
as he relaxed his chine fell into the ground.
The next year at The Mini Milker show in Placerville, 2005, we asked Norm Geiser
(who loves to show bucks) if he would please show Earl. He did well in his class so
the second show after seeing the pro,
it was my turn. Sandi Liska was judging. His competition included 5 very nice Sr
bucks needing 1 leg to finish their AGS championships.  When Sandi placed Earl 1st
in his class we were amazed to say the least,  now it was time to go in for Gr Ch Sr
Buck, a bit nerve racking as the competition was pretty tough and truthfully did not
think we had much of a chance, Stormin owned by Norm and Donna Geiser was in
the lineup. When Sandi started describing the buck she was going to give the Grand
to, my thoughts were focused on how much we loved Earl and that it would be OK if
he did not win. We thought he was great and have always tried to evaluate our
animals with the betterment of the breed foremost in our minds. So a win would
confirm that we were indeed on the right track but knew it might not happen. We
were shocked when Sandi chose Earl for Gr Ch Sr Buck. Yea, I started crying and
couldn't move. We then went BOB, and our little plain black buck Earl had earned his
first AGS leg.
Sandi was doing classifications that day so we had her do one on our Earl,  He
received a score of  91.7   Excellent. Sandi said so many nice things about our boy,
his wide flat chest floor, length, flatness of bone, smoothness of blending into his
shoulders, tight withers, angulation in the rear and how open he was.
Our ugly duckling had turned into a beautiful buck.
Earl was only shown in AGS for the next year as we had been told he had gone over
height for NDGA. At 4 years old we decided it was time to see if indeed he had gone
over, so we entered him in the 2007 Last Pahrump show in all 4 shows,  2 NDGA and
2 AGS.
Pahrump is the last show of the season for many of us and the competition is  tough
with many chasing that illusive last leg, 2007 was no exception.
Sat was the 2 NDGA shows with Judges Sandi Liska and Virginia Johnson-Gruver,
Earl went GR CH in both shows and earned two legs towards his NDGA PGCH and
was measured at 22 3/4". Yea!!! He was not over height for NDGA.
Sunday 2 AGS shows, judges Valerie Ciesynski and Amy Akramoff,
Earl went BOB earning his last 2 AGS legs making him eligible for his  AGS MCH.
Earl received another NDGA leg at the 2008 Pahrump show only needing one to
finish.
Well the boy received his last leg at the NDGA Nationals in Pahrump 2009
and is now a dual champion in both AGS and NDGA,
and to top it off he went winner in the PGCH class. We will miss showing him as he
was such a nice boy in the show ring. Look for his daughters and sons in the coming
years both in the ring and the milk pail.

If you would like to be put on the list for his kids please let us know.

We will also try and get him collected soon.
EArl is now a PGCH

Earl at the Placerville Show spring 2005 2 yr old
